(Col西 1:13, Col 西2:6-8)

Last Sunday we witnessed six people’s baptisms. But after the joy, some may feel, “That’s it, done.” Others may wonder, “What next?” Some may even feel a bit lost or overlooked. Today we’re gonna learn what the bible says what next after baptism. Let’s look at我们来看 Col 西1:13, For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. 2:6-8 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ.

1. We have been transferred into a Kingdom

1:13 shows us we’re not just baptised into a church; we’ve been brought into another Kingdom. What is a kingdom? A kingdom has a king with its ways, principles, and authority. The United Kingdom has a king. Tonga has a king. But this isn’t about two unseen kingdoms at work in this world: darkness and light. Jesus tells us 耶稣说魔鬼the devil “is a liar and the father of lies”本来是说谎的,也是说谎之人的父。 (John 8:44). The kingdom of darkness rules through lies and sin over people not living under Jesus’ truth. In this world there’re so many lies, “You are what you achieve.” “You’re a doctor…a professor…a lawyer... then you’re something, when you lose your job, you’re nothing.” That’s a lie. The truth is: “you are valued because you are created and loved by God 真理是:你如此宝贵,因你是神创造的,蒙神所爱的。 (Genesis 1:27; Romans 5:8). Your identity is not in performance or title, but in being His child. Your true value is seen in how much Christ rules in you and is live out through you. The more Christ lives in and through you, the more your life carries eternal value.

The fruit of a life lived under the world’s influence is clear: 一个活在世界影响之下的生命,所结出的果子是明显的:not peace but chaos; not freedom but bondage; not joy but fear and striving; not clarity but suspicion and division. This week I dealt with a situation where some people were in tension and hurt. As I was praying, this came to me: assumptions misinterpretation lies. That’s often how darkness works, in families, workplaces, even in church. When we carry unresolved hurt, and something touches an old wound, or doesn’t sit well with us, we may quickly jump to a negative conclusion rooted in rejection: 当我们带着未处理的伤口,一件事触碰到旧有的伤痛,或让我们心里不舒服时,我们很容易迅速跳到一个消极的结论,往往根植于被拒绝的感觉:“He doesn’t value me.” “They’re against me.” When pain joins with misinterpretation, and we start believing those thoughts and repeating them, we hurt ourselves more, create trouble, and step out of truth. That’s why Scripture tells us to guard our hearts and take our thoughts captive. As Christians, when pain and assumptions rise, we turn to the Bible and pray: 作为基督徒,当痛苦和假设升起时,我们当回到圣经,回到祷告中:“Lord, where is this reaction coming from? Are there old wounds I need to deal with? Thank You for loving and forgiving me. I choose to forgive and trust You rather than my assumptions.” In the Kingdom we live under a different voice, the voice of truth. We are learning a new way to think and respond. As we do, we protect our mental health, our relationships, and our walk with God.

2. How do we live after baptism?

2:6 says, “Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him.” How do we continue? The same way, by trusting Him daily. After baptism, darkness will still try to influence us. The devil tempted Jesus and will also tempt us. How? Through lies we believe, unresolved wounds, bitterness, unforgiveness, fear, jealousy, old ways of thinking, addictive habits, sexual sin, and the like. In the bible, Jesus came not just teach knowledge. He healed the sick and cast out demons. When demons saw Him, they fell down and cried out, “You’re the Son of God.” Demons knew who had the ultimate authority, but God’s people didn’t know. We see when darkness was driven out, people were healed, delivered, and able to follow Jesus. Jesus is the King of the Kingdom who came to rescue us from the rule of darkness. So we should continue to learn how to live under our Father King’s authority, in His righteousness, love, joy, and peace. For this reason, A continue to live in Him. The Greek word for “live” here means “walk.” It describes a daily lifestyle, not a one-time decision. Who are you walking with? Whose voice shapes your conclusions? Jesus says in John 15, “Remain in Me… you will bear much fruit.” If we want fruit and blessing, we must stay connected to Him. That’s why daily Bible reading and prayer matter. A week later, at our church camp, we can practise this together each morning, learning how to sit with Scripture, pray through it, and build simple daily devotion habits. As we keep His Word in our hearts and walk with the Holy Spirit, we learn to remain in Him.

B. Be rooted and built up in Him  在祂里面生根建造。Jeremiah 17 says the one who trusts in the Lord is like a tree planted by water. Its roots go deep. When heat comes, it doesn’t fear. When drought comes, it still bears fruit. That’s the life God wants for us after baptism. Imagine two trees. One has roots in rejection and lies: “I’m not wanted… I’m not good enough… no one loves me.” From those roots come jealousy, insecurity, hurt, and comparison. The fruit reflects the root. But when we are rooted in God’s love and truth, we speak differently: “I am loved. I am chosen. God is with me.” When storms come, we trust the King. We let His Word examine our thoughts and drive out lies, fear, and control. We stop blaming and judging others. We choose to trust God, practise love, serve others, and let Christ’s peace rule in our hearts. This is how we are built up in Him. As we practise this, we are transformed from the inside out. The fruit of such a life is thankfulness rather than bitterness.

C, Guard against deception. Col 2:8 urges us not to be taken captive by ideas rooted in human tradition, or worldly thinking that don’t align with Christ. They may sound wise, but they pull us away from trusting and depending on God. They can be cultural beliefs or popular opinions, yet empty if they don’t match God’s Word. That’s why we practise staying anchored in Scripture. When something contradicts truth, we reject it and let Christ shape our worldview. Baptism is only the beginning of Kingdom training. We’ve been rescued from darkness and brought into Christ’s Kingdom, so now we: 我们已经被救出黑暗,迁入基督的神国度;所以现在我们要:continue to live in Him, be rooted and built up in Him, be strengthened in faith, guard against deception, and overflow with thankfulness. Let’s choose daily to live under our Father King, trust Him, walk with Him, and grow in Him.

Prayer:

Yes, Lord, we trust You. Jesus, You are so good. Thank You for rescuing us from the dominion of darkness and bringing us into Your Kingdom of light. Thank You for shedding Your own blood, making a way for us to live under a new Kingdom and a new King, merciful and powerful.

Now, if you like, you can make this prayer your own:

“Father, forgive me for the times when something didn’t sit well with me and I quickly jumped to assumptions and conclusions. When I felt hurt or disappointed, I often put myself in the place of a victim, hurting myself, hurting You, and hurting my relationships. Thank You for rescuing me from the dominion of darkness and it’s way of living. Today I choose to trust You and to let You change the way I think. I choose to stop guessing, assuming, and drawing conclusions from my hurts. I choose to forgive.

I choose trust. I choose to walk in the light.”

Holy Spirit, help us stay rooted in Your truth. Let peace rule in our hearts. Let thankfulness replace bitterness, and trust replace suspicion. Teach us to live under Your voice and Your truth. Amen.
