(proverbs 箴言 3:34,15:33,26:18-19) 

We are in the second Sunday of Lent. 我们在四旬期的第二个星期日。And today’s topic is ‘humility’. 今天的话题是“谦卑”。We’ve given three main bible verses which refer to ‘humility’. 我们要用三节经文来讲今天的谦卑主题。I’m going to share three points with you我要和大家分享三点: the benefits of humility,谦卑的益处, the meaning and the reason for humility,谦卑的意思和缘由，and practice Humility by entrusting ourselves in God’s just judgement. 和借信靠神公义审判操练谦卑。

First of all, 首先，let’s look at the benefits we receive from humility through these three-bible verse.让我们看看从这三段经文中所说的谦卑能带给我们什么益处。Pro 3:34, He mocks proud mockers, but shows favour to the humble and oppressed. 【箴3:34】他讥诮那好讥诮的人，赐恩给谦卑的人。Pro 15:33 Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor. 【箴15:33】敬畏耶和华，是智慧的训诲，尊荣以前，必有谦卑。Pro 16:18-19 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. 【箴16:18-19】骄傲在败坏以先；狂心在跌倒之前。心里谦卑与穷乏人来往，强如将掳物与骄傲人同分。 

1, The benefits of humility谦卑的益处 

What benefits do we receive from being humble in the light of these bible verses? 照这三节经文，谦卑能得什么益处？A, God gives favour (Pro 3:34箴言3：34). A在神面前蒙恩。God shows favour to the humble.神赐恩给谦卑的人。The favor of God can be described as “tangible evidence that a person has the approval of the Lord.” 在神面前蒙恩可以定义成 “显明的确据看出神与那人同在”。Imagine how different our lives could be when God shows favour(grace) to every aspect of our lives. 试想若我们在神面前蒙恩，我们的生活会多么的不同。For example, 比如，the bible tells us that Noah found favour in the eyes of God (Gen 6:8).圣经告诉我们，唯有挪亚在耶和华面前蒙恩（创6：8）。 

Then what happened to Noah? 在挪亚身上发生了什么事？God personally instructed Noah to build an ark, 神亲自指示挪亚造方舟，so that only he and his family survived when the flood destroyed sinful humanity.因此当全地罪人被洪水毁灭时，只有他和他的家人逃脱。Only Noah was chosen to carry on the survival of the human race. 也只有挪亚被选成为继续人类历史的人。God chose him, 神拣选他，God spoke to him personally ,神亲自对他说话，God instructed him personally,神亲自指示他，God saved him,神拯救他，and God entrusted him,神托付他，God’s favour is the presence of the power of God that changes things for us. 在神面前的蒙恩是神大能的同在，为我们改变一切。 

B. Humility brings wisdom and honour (Pro 箴言15:33). B 谦卑带来智慧和荣耀。This bible verse proved true in Joseph’s example.这节经文在约瑟的事件里得了证实。Joseph found favour in the eyes of the Lord, 约瑟在耶和华眼中蒙恩，so God was with him.所以上帝与他同在。Even though Joseph was sold into slavery to Egypt by his jealous brothers, 即便约瑟被嫉妒的兄弟卖到埃及作为奴隶，and he was brought low, 他也降卑了，yet God lifted him up.但神却将他升高。There was no one so discerning and wise like Joseph in the eyes of Pharaoh. 在法老的眼中没有谁比约瑟更有智慧和聪明。God caused Joseph to find favour with Pharaoh, 上帝使约瑟在法老面前蒙恩，and he put Joseph in charge of the whole land of Egypt.约瑟就掌管了埃及全地。Imagine that! 想想！What honour Joseph received! 约瑟何等被尊荣！Hebrews in the ancient world were a nation of nomads. 希伯来人在古时不过是一个游牧民族。Nomads were a group of people who travelled from place to place to raise cattle and camels. 游牧民族就是一群人放牲畜和骆驼从这里游到那里，While Egypt was a famous country powerful with an ancient civilization. 但古埃及却是著名的文明古国，So there’s no doubt that, 毫无疑问，Hebrews were looked down on by the Egyptians. 古埃及人藐视希伯来人。Despite such a background,尽管在那样的背景下，a Hebrew slave became the second most powerful man in Egypt next to Pharaoh.一个希伯来被卖到埃及的奴隶居然成了在法老以外埃及地上第二个最有权柄的人。What favour and honour God gave to Joseph due to his humility before God. 上帝因约瑟的谦卑，给了他何等的恩宠和荣耀！You and me also can be lifted up like what Joseph experienced in our stories,你我也可以在我们自己的环境中被神这样的举起, but the key is whether we are humble enough like Joseph was or not.但关键是我们是否可以像约瑟那么的谦卑。Because our God is the same yesterday, today and forever. 因我们的神是从昨日到今日和永远都不改变的。 

I’ve heard that some people of colour struggle with discrimination from white people. 我听说有些有色人种在不想被白人歧视而苦苦挣扎。When they go to school, 他们去学校，they look at people’s faces,看人的脸色，and they listen to people’s words, 听人的讲话，to discern whether they are welcome or not.去辨别人有没有欢迎他们 。When they go to the workplace,他们去上班，they do the same,做同样的事，they accept fear and lies,他们接受拒绝和谎言，they are hurt and filled with complaints, 他们接受伤害，充满抱怨，rejection and unforgiveness.拒绝和不饶恕，They hurt themselves.他们伤害他们自己。

People of God, 神的子民，we receive healing to our souls if we put our trust in the truth,我们若信靠真理，and look at ourselves with the eyes of the Lord.和用神的眼光看自己，就必得灵魂医治。We are beautifully and equally created by God! 我们的受造是荣美和平等的！We should declare,我们当宣告，“I’m proud of the color of my skin,我为我的肤色而自豪 ，because God uniquely created me. 因为上帝造我是独特的。I praise God because I’m fearfully and wonderfully made!我赞美神，因我的受造奇妙可畏！” We don’t have to strive for promotion or honor in our own strength,我们不必用我们自己的力量去为提升和被尊重挣扎， “6 For exaltation comes neither from the east,因为高举非从东，Nor from the west nor from the south. 也非从西和南而来 ，7 But God is the Judge: He puts down one, And exalts another. Psa 75:6-7. 唯有神断定，他使这人降卑，使那人升高 （诗75：6-7）It says that promotion comes from God,这里说升高来自于神 ，whether in relationships,不管是在人际关系中，in marriage,婚姻中，in the workplace, 在工作场所，or in whatever area of life,还是生活中的任何一个方面，honour and promotion come from God. 被尊重和高举来自于神。In other words,也就是说，it doesn’t help one who accepts rejection,若你接受拒绝感，and strives for honour by harbouring jealousy or hostility towards others.为了被尊重而去嫉妒和怀恨是毫无用处的。It only hurts yourself,这只能伤害你自己。However,然而, “humility comes before honor”, 尊荣以先必有谦卑humility brings honor, riches, and life.谦卑带来富有，尊荣，生命为赏赐。(see Proverbs 见箴22:4) 

2, The Meaning and The Reason for Humility 谦卑的含义和缘由 

What is humility? 什么是谦卑？Someone said, “humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” 有人说，谦卑不是小看自己，而是少想自己。It means that humility isn’t thinking poorly (badly) of yourself.谦卑并不是要看不起自己。“I’m not as good as him.” 我没他好。That’s not humility.这不是谦卑。Andrew Murray in his book – The Beauty of Holiness, wrote this: 慕安德烈在其著作《圣洁之美》中写道：Humility is the displacement of self by the enthronement of God. Where God is all, self is nothing.” 谦卑是神的宝座取代了自我。神在我里兴旺，我必衰微。Here the self represents our ego, the corrupted old-self. 在这里，这个我代表自我，堕落的老我。Andrew Murray believes that humility is to hide ourselves in Jesus Christ until we are clothed with Christ’s humility. 慕安德烈认为谦卑是在耶稣基督里隐藏自我，直到我们披戴基督的谦卑。It means that just practicing humility outwardly is not what God wants from us. 这意味着，神并不是要我们只操练外表谦卑。He wants the heart to be transformed into Christlikeness.乃要以基督的心为心，心思意念成为基督的样式。I agree. 我同意。

What does Christ Jesus’ humility look like?那基督耶稣的谦卑是什么样子的？

a) Jesus Christ didn’t seek honour (approval) from people (see John 5:41) 耶稣基督不求人的称赞（认可）（见 约5：41）

b) Jesus Christ did what pleased the Father even when it hurts. (see John 8:29) 耶稣基督就算自己吃亏，仍做父的喜悦的事 （见 约8：29） 

C) Jesus Christ didn’t demand respect when he was misunderstood (see Matt 11:19). 耶稣基督宁愿自己被误解也不求被人尊重 （见 太11：19）

D) Jesus Christ didn’t seek to be in the spotlight, but he willingly became the lowly (see Phi 2:6-7). 耶稣基督宁愿卑微，不求出风头 （腓 2：6-7）。

E) Jesus Christ depended on God daily and gave glory to God (see John 5:30). 耶稣基督每日倚靠神，归荣耀与神 （见 约5：30）

F) Jesus Christ was obedient to the Father’s will even unto death on a cross (Phi 2:8) 耶稣基督顺服父的旨意，以至于死在十架上。（见 腓2：8） 

That’s Jesus’ humility, but why, why should we be humble? 这就是耶稣的谦卑，可是，我们为何要谦卑呢？Proverbs 16:18-19, says, Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. 箴言16：18-19驕傲在敗壞以先；狂心在跌倒之前。心裡謙卑與窮乏人來往，強如將擄物與驕傲人同分。 It reveals that there is destructive power in pride, and that pride and arrogance always leads to ruin and calamity. 它揭示了骄傲里含有毁灭的力量，骄傲和傲慢必导致毁灭和灾难。Proverbs 18:12 says, Before downfall the heart is haughty, but humility before honour. 敗壞之先，人心驕傲；尊榮以前，必有謙卑。 

A haughty spirit means a person who has a haughty heart. 骄傲的灵表示人有骄傲的心。While a humble spirit, is a humble heart. 而有谦卑的灵，就有谦卑的心。God tells us that it’s better for us to choose humility, and to choose humble friends, even if they are poor. 神也告诉我们当选择谦卑，也要结交谦卑人，即使他们清贫。The Bible gives so many examples of the consequences of pride and haughtiness. 关于骄傲和狂傲的结局，圣经举了很多的例子。For example: 比如： 

a) Lucifer – the chief angel in heaven became proud, and he fell and lost everything (see Isa 见 赛14:12-14). 路西弗-天上的天使长，因骄傲堕落阴间，一无所有。 

b) Goliath – the Philistine giant who proudly cursed God and Israel, but he was killed by a teenage boy David. 歌利亚-那个狂傲地诅咒神和以色列的非利士人巨人，但被少年人大卫杀死了。

c) Uzziah – the King of Judah, as long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success (see 2 Chron 见代下 26:5b ). 犹大王乌西亚，他寻求神，神就使他亨通。But after he became powerful, his pride led to his downfall (2 Chron 26:16) 他既强盛，就心高气傲以致跌倒。King Uzziah was unfaithful to God by trying to do what he wasn’t allowed to do, he had leprosy until the day he died (see 2 Chron 26:21) 乌西亚王干犯耶和华神，行本不该行的事，长了大麻风直到死日。

d) King Saul’ s pride caused him to be rejected by God as King (see 1 Samuel 撒母耳记上13:14). 神 因扫罗王的骄傲 就厌弃他做王。 

The bigger the ego, the harder the fall. 自我越大，跌倒越大。Ego destroys relationships. 自我破坏人际关系。What is the nature of a haughty heart?高傲的本质是什么？Apparently, it’s opposite to Jesus’ humility. 显然，它与耶稣的谦卑相反。Pride is self-exaltation or self-elevation. 傲慢是高举自己，抬高自己。It’s seeking honor, respect and to be praised of the self. 求的是自我荣耀，自我被夸被尊重。It’s always criticizing or thinking, “Humph, What’s so great? I would do it better than that.” 它总是吹毛求疵或想，“哼，有什么了不起？我可以做得更好”It’s always pursuing, “give me praise.”总是要 ‘说我好’ It’s always jealous and hurt when others receive praise,看见别人得称赞就嫉妒，受伤 “I should have that praise.” “这称赞因归我的。” 

It keeps people from fearing God. 它使人不敬畏神。Proverbs 8:13 says, The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and evil behavior, and perverse speech. 箴言8:13说道敬畏耶和華在乎恨惡邪惡；那驕傲、狂妄，並惡道，以及乖謬的口，都為我所恨惡。Pride prevents true revival in a Christian’s life. 骄傲阻挡基督徒生命中真实的复兴。Because pride keeps people from repenting of their wrongdoing, 因为骄傲让人无法悔改自己的罪，and bringing their own failures to God. 阻止在神面前承认自己的错。Instead, they say, “I can’t forgive, because he is wrong.” 相反，或说，“我没法原谅，因为是他的错。”Pride causes pointing fingers towards others, 骄傲导致人指摘他人，rather than turning to God himself, 而不是自己转向神，and waiting for God’s judgement. 去等候神的判断。It ruins people’s marriages and relationships. 骄傲破坏婚姻，破坏关系。

Why should we be humble? 我们为何要谦卑？There is triumphal power in Humility! 谦卑里有得胜的大能！Because we are in a spiritual battle. 因为我们处在属灵争战中。From the beginning of human history in the days of Adam and Eve, 从亚当和夏娃被造起始，to the second coming of Jesus, 到耶稣的第二次降临，spiritual warfare never ceases.属灵争战从未停止。Because the devil does his best to tempt God’s people to worship him, rather than letting them worship the Creator God. 因为魔鬼用尽手段诱惑神的子民敬拜他，而不是敬拜造物主。But only humility and submission to God are fatal weapons to defeat the devil who is proud and rebellious. 惟有谦卑顺服神，才是打败骄傲和悖逆的魔鬼的致命武器。James 4:6-7, 10 says, God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up. 雅各书4:6-7,10神阻擋驕傲的人，賜恩給謙卑的人。故此你們要順服神。務要抵擋魔鬼，魔鬼就必離開你們逃跑了。務要在主面前自卑，主就必叫你們升高。

Do you wanna live a victorious life in Christ? 你想在基督里过得胜的生活吗？Here is the key, 关键在这里，spiritual warfare won’t be won over by your aggressive prayers or shouting at the devil, 属灵争战不会因为你喊叫的祷告，或对魔鬼大喊大叫而得胜，it will triumph by your humility and submission to God.乃是因着你的谦卑和顺服神而得胜。Our pride becomes an easy target for the devil's attacks. 骄傲使我们易受魔鬼的攻击。For Jesus tells us that any kingdom against itself will fall (Luke 11). 耶稣告诉我们凡一國自相紛爭，就必站立不住（路11）So the enemy wants to make God’s kingdom fall on earth through our pride. 仇敌想要借我们的骄傲叫神国在地上站立不住。Often pride is a cover for personal insecurity or fear of rejection inside of him. 通常骄傲是人用来掩盖里面的不安全感和拒绝伤害。From King Saul we can see this, 从扫罗王我们看见，that because he didn’t deal with his own insecurity and the fear of rejection inside of him, 他没有对付心里的不安全感和拒绝伤害，so he was easily offended due to his “wounded pride”.所以他很容易因伤害自尊心而恼恨发怒。When his people gave praise to young David, 当人们夸奖年轻的大卫时，his “wounded pride” drove him to his downfall.他骄傲的自尊心受伤，就使他堕落了。

Humility requires faith,谦卑需要信心，faith acts out of humility.信心活出谦卑。Actually, humility is demanded by God in building our relationship with God. 事实上，在与我们建立关系时，神向我们要谦卑。God says that He only listens to one who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at His word (Isa 66:2b). 神说但我所看顧的，就是虛心痛悔、因我話而戰兢的人（见以赛亚书66：2b）。If we have a strong inner man humbly rooted in submission to Jesus’ words, 如果我们的内里的人能谦卑的扎根在顺服耶稣的真理里，we’ll defeat pride.就能胜过骄傲。

3, Practice Humility by entrusting ourselves in God’s just judgement藉着信靠神公义的审判操练谦卑 

Go back to Pro 3:34, 回到箴言3:34，God mocks proud mockers, 神讥诮那好讥诮的人，but shows favour to the humble and the oppressed.  却赐恩给谦卑的人。The verb “mock” refers to the behaviour of one who sneers at others.  动词“讥诮”是指一个人嘲笑别人的行为。The noun “mocker” means one who is arrogant.  名词“好讥诮的人”是指自大骄傲的人。We can say it like this:我们可以这样说：God sneers at those who proudly sneer at others, 神嘲笑那些骄傲嘲笑别人的人，but those who humbly confess and renounce their own sins find mercy (see Pro 28:13)但那些谦卑承认并离弃自己罪的人必蒙怜悯(见箴言28:13)，and God will show favour to them.神也必向他们施恩。 

Brothers and sisters, 弟兄姐妹们，theological knowledge we acquire in our heads,我们头脑所得的神学知识，only puffs up which increases arguments.只会叫人自高自大并生发争论。It doesn’t solve problems, 不能解决问题，because the problems we really face are found in the heart.  因为我们真正面临的问题是在内心深处。So Jesus our Lord provides a remedy for the heart, 所以主耶稣为我们的心开出的药方，that is to trust in His justice, 就是信靠祂的公义，and follow His way of being humble in heart.  并效法祂内心谦卑。Jesus says, 耶稣说:“take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matt 11:29.” 【太11:29】我心里柔和谦卑，你们当负我的轭，学我的样式，这样，你们心里就必得享安息。In other words, 换句话，He is saying, 祂在说，“if you trust in My words, 你若信我的话，by knowing who I AM, 知道我是谁，and who you are in ME, 知道你在我里面是谁，and if you really follow in My footsteps humbly for your salvation, 若你真的为你自己得拯救而谦卑的跟随我的脚踪，your heart will be definitely healed, 你的心就必得医治，and restored from pride which may be expressed in worry, fear, or anxiety.脱离担心、惧怕和忧虑等骄傲的病，恢复康健。” God has provided a remedy for the healing of our souls, 神已经赐我们灵魂得医治的药方，but it requires us to follow in the footsteps of Christ’s humility.但需要我们跟随基督谦卑的脚步。

Jesus Christ was despised by the religious leaders and other people in his day.  耶稣基督在地上时被宗教领袖和众人藐视。Even his own brothers misunderstood and mocked him, when Christ Jesus obeyed the Father’s commands, and didn’t go to Judea publicly, 当祂遵从父的命令，不公开到犹太地去，连他自己的弟兄也误解他、讥诮他，“no one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” 说:“【约7:4】人要显扬名声，没有在暗处行事的，你如果行这些事，就当将自己显明给世人看。”They thought that Jesus desired to be in the spotlight.  他们以为耶稣想出风头。But because of Jesus’ humility of heart, 但是因为耶稣的心谦卑，he didn’t defend himself, 他没有为自己辩解，rather, he forgave people who offended and abused him, 相反，他饶恕那些冒犯和辱骂他的人，and he entrusted himself to the Father who judged justly, 将自己交托按公义审判的父，because he knew who the Father was, 因为他知道父是谁，and he knew that the Father would repay, 知道父会报应，and God would judge His people.  知道神会审判祂的民。

Christ Jesus emptied himself, 基督耶稣倒空自己，the highest became the lowest, 至高的成为至卑的，to be obedient unto death, 存心顺服以至于死，even death on a cross, 且死在十字架上，for the Father’s will,为成就父的旨意，to forgive and save sinners (his enemies).饶恕并拯救罪人（他的仇敌）。Therefore, 所以，the Father exalted him to the highest place,父将他升为至高，and gave him the name that is above all names.  又赐给他那超乎万名之上的名。That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, 叫万民无不因耶稣的名屈膝，every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord.  无不口称“耶稣为主”。Following in the footsteps of Christ’s humility,跟随基督谦卑的脚踪， is the only way for us to triumph over the power of the enemy,是唯一能胜过仇敌的得胜之路, and by which we therefore receive promotion, exaltation and honor in Christ from God. 借此我们在基督里得神赐的提升、高举和荣耀。

Some may say, 有人会说，“Why should I forgive?  “我为什么要饶恕？While he who has done wrong gets away? 作恶的人却可以逃脱？” No one can get away from God’s judgement!  没有人能逃脱神的审判！God mocks proud mockers, 神讥诮那好讥诮的人，but shows favour to the humble who repent of their own sins.  却赐恩给谦卑悔改自己罪的人。Sometimes, you don’t see Him repay, 有时你还没看到神报应人，because God is merciful enough, 那是因为祂实在是慈悲宽容，that He waits for people to turn from their wrongdoing. 祂仍在等候人从错路上转回。When the time comes, 当时候到了，he will mock the proud mockers,祂必讥诮那好讥诮的人，and He will judge. 必施行审判。 

I’ll tell you a real story, 我要讲一个真实的事，when I observed God’s faithfulness to this verse. 让我看到神见证这节经文的信实。Four years ago,四年前，a friend of mine came to visit me. 我的一个朋友来看我。One day, after sharing food and fellowship together with lots of people.  一天，在与许多人分享食物和团契之后。My friend came to me angrily, 我的朋友生气地来找我，and complained, “I’m very angry tonight.抱怨道:“我今晚很生气。” “why? ”“为什么?” I asked.  我问。She continued, 她接着说，“A man who has a Chinese face came to me “一个长着中国面孔的男的过来，and questioned me in Mandarin, 用普通话问我， ‘where are you from? ‘你从哪里来?’ I replied, Shenzhen. 我回答说，深圳。He sneered at me with an arrogant and scornful attitude, 他以一种傲慢和轻蔑的态度嘲笑我，“Oh, Umm, ShenZhen?   “哦，嗯，深圳?That means that you are from mainland China. 就是说，你从大陆来咯。”  She was deeply offended, 她感到被深深地冒犯了，and was mad at the man’s arrogant attitude.对这个男人傲慢的态度很生气。So I persuaded her, 所以我劝她说，“look, don’t look at people, but look at Jesus.” “不要看人，要看耶稣。”God knows everything, 神知道一切，and in all things God works for our good,神在一切事上是为我们得益处，if we love Him by doing His commands.  只要我们爱祂、遵行祂的命令。Why are we offended?  我们为什么感到被冒犯？We are offended because of our own pride. 就是因我们自己太骄傲。 

We are responsible for trusting in God’s just judgements ourselves, 我们的职分是自己信靠神公义的审判，and leaving room for God to judge.让位给神去判断。If you follow in Jesus’ footsteps,你若跟随耶稣的脚步，by dying to the reactions of the self, 向自己旧人的反应死，and forgiving him, 饶恕，God will repay.  神就会报答。That’s God’s job. 这是神的工作。Four years later, just recently, 四年后，就在最近，I heard that this man was mocked by other people about where he comes from.  我听说这个人因他所来自的地方而被人嘲笑。Because he is also a descendant of mainland Chinese. 因为他也是中国大陆人的后代。Although this man is rich enough,虽然他非常的富有，yet his wealth doesn’t help him to escape from the fate of being mocked,但他的财富不能帮他逃脱被嘲笑的命运, because God’s judgement is just and trustworthy! 因为上帝的审判是公义又可靠！He is a great and awesome God! 祂是大而可畏的神！He mocks proud mockers, 祂讥诮那讥诮的人，but is gracious to the humble.赐恩给谦卑的人。Great is His love for those who revere Him! 祂的慈爱向敬畏祂的人是何等大！ 

In the end,最后，let us again together read these three bible verses as the conclusion to today’s message: 最后，让我们再次同声诵读这三节经文： 

Pro 3:34, He mocks proud mockers, but shows favour to the humble and oppressed. 【箴3:34】他讥诮那好讥诮的人，赐恩给谦卑的人。 

Pro 15:33 Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor. 【箴15:33】敬畏耶和华，是智慧的训诲，尊荣以前，必有谦卑。
