Because of Adam’s sin, the curse came upon all people—for the wages of sin is death, and no one can escape it. Who can save us from this curse? The Lamb of God, Jesus Christ—the sinless one—became a man, was hung on a tree, and took the curse upon Himself to redeem us from sin and its consequences. Jesus paid the price for our sin, gave His life as a ransom, and with His blood He set us free from the curse of the law.
Paul told the Galatians that those who rely on the works of the law are under a curse. There are hundreds, even thousands, of rules in the law—and James said that if you break just one, you are guilty of breaking them all. I once thought I could do it—thought I could keep the law—but when the situation worsened, the anger, bitterness, hatred, and all kinds of sin within me could no longer be hidden. It showed once again that the old self is a slave to sin. No one can achieve the holiness and righteousness required by the law through their own efforts.
The cross was originally a symbol of curse and shame, but because of Jesus’ resurrection, it became a symbol of salvation. Lord, thank you for dying for me. Thank you for giving us the Holy Spirit—to free us from the curse, to bless us, and to make us a channel of blessing to others. It’s not by our own efforts, but by God’s grace—through faith—that we place ourselves in His hands, accept His shaping, and allow Him to do His own work in us.
Lord, in the past, present, and future—I need your salvation. Without you, everything I’ve done is broken. All I can do is humbly turn back to you. Thank you for allowing trials to come, so that I might truly see and accept myself. Only by nailing my old self to the cross and letting Christ reign in me can I be freed from the curse and enter into true peace, joy, and love—becoming a blessing to those around me and bringing glory to your name.
