Every word Paul spoke is full of depth and meaning. The phrase “Love your neighbour as yourself” runs through the entire Bible,因律法的总纲就是爱,爱神爱人,其次就是爱人如己。because the central theme of the law is love—love for God and love for others. The second part, to love your neighbor as yourself, expresses this beautifully. Paul teaches us that it is by God’s grace that Christ gave Himself to save us from sin, so that through faith in Him we may gain true freedom and be set free—不再做罪的奴仆,去放纵情欲得罪神,总要用爱心互相服侍,因彼此相爱就是基督的门徒了。not to serve sin or follow our selfish desires and offend God, but to serve one another in love. For loving one another is the mark of Christ’s disciples.
Jesus Christ set the perfect example for us. He chose to love us, even when we were His enemies—loving us more than Himself. He showed love in the midst of pain. Even at His most wounded moment, He prayed for us: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” We received this salvation freely, and we are called to give it freely. Yet, when God brings other sinners—people just like us—into our lives, often we find ourselves unable to love. We choose anger, avoidance, and self-protection... and we push God’s command to love aside.
But we often don’t realise that the people we find hardest to love are actually a gift from God—a great reward and an opportunity to experience real transformation. Loving others as ourselves is not just a command; it’s God’s wisdom. Through it, He shapes us to be more like Jesus. We often say we want to be true followers, real disciples, those who bring Him glory and joy. And He hears every one of those desires. So He gives us tests—not to harm us, but to train us. In those moments, we’re faced with a choice: will I love God and love others as myself? Or will I choose to love myself first?
Lord, I have received Your boundless grace for so many years—grace too great and too numerous to count. How could I ever repay such mercy? But now the time has come. Yes, now is the time. I offer myself completely to You, Lord. I want to become one who truly loves You and walks in obedience to Your commands. Even in the most painful, bitter, and difficult moments, I choose to remain steadfast in You. Help me, Lord, to treat others the way I hope to be treated—thinking from their perspective, carrying the heart of Christ, and serving them in love. Let me love others as myself, live with a heart full of gratitude, and walk in the true freedom and abundance You’ve promised.May my life bring glory to Your name. (郭牧师Pastor Guo)
