【2Cor6: 14】Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

A farmer uses a wooden “yoke” to link two oxen so they can pull a plough. They must move in the same direction and pull together to get the job done. Under the Old Testament law, animals of different kinds were not to be yoked together. In the same way, we are not a match with unbelievers — our aims, direction, and values are entirely different. So, we shouldn’t be yoked together. Just as righteousness and wrongdoing, light and darkness, are in direct opposition, they can’t share common ground or be blended together.

这不是让我们与世人隔绝、不来往,而是:‘不要与不信的人同负一轭’…This doesn’t mean we cut ourselves off from the world or refuse to mix with people. Rather, it’s: “Don’t be yoked together with unbelievers.” Here the Holy Spirit is teaching us that if a Christian, following their own ideas, becomes closely tied to an unbeliever for gain —例如在婚姻关系上,商业合伙上…因信的人与不信的人,有着完全不同的敬拜对象,不同的价值观,不同的终极目标,基督徒往往不仅不能,带不信的对方归向主,反而会陷入极大的属灵冲突、争战,甚至人际关系破裂、生命和财物、利益都受损…whether in business partnership, living arrangements, or marriage — the two have completely different objects of worship, values, and ultimate goals. More often than not, instead of drawing the unbeliever to Christ, the Christian will be pulled into serious spiritual conflict, struggles, and even see relationships collapse, with harm to life, property, and wellbeing.

When the Israelites ignored God’s command and married people from other nations, they turned away from Him, bowed to idols, and came under a curse. Jesus, following God’s will, came into the midst of sinners and overcame sin the righteous in place of the unrighteous — laying down His life, taking on Himself our sin and punishment, so we could be brought out of darkness into light, from the power of Satan to God. Now the Lord calls us to follow Him, to be united with Him, yoked alongside Him, for His yoke is easy and His load is light.

Lord, please forgive me for not understanding Your heart — for my unbelief, stubbornness, and following my own way. Your commands are all given in love. You are the Lord who bears my burdens each day. To be yoked with You means the yoke and the weight rest on Your shoulders. You invite me to be yoked with You to train me, to share Your wisdom and strength, and to shape me to be more like You. Thank You, Lord, for Your good purpose, for drawing me with Your kindness. I want to take up my cross, deny myself, follow You, and proclaim You — so that more people will follow You too, step into the call of serving You as King, be yoked with You, grow in gentleness and humility, become more like You, and share in Your glory together.
