The Macedonian churches, even in their deep poverty, overflowed with generosity. What God delights in is not human effort, but the Spirit working in us, making us willing and joyful to give. Without His grace, we would not even have breath or strength. When Jesus told the disciples, “You give them something to eat,” they answered, “We’ve only got five loaves and two fish.” But Jesus said, “Bring them here to me.” Once placed in His hands, He blessed and multiplied them — feeding five thousand with leftovers to spare. The point wasn’t what the disciples had, but their willingness to place it in Jesus’ hands — and He did what they never could.
The poor widow who gave two small coins was praised by Jesus — not because of what she could do in her own strength, but because she trusted God fully and placed all she had into His hands. God is never in need. Everything is already His. Before He asked us for anything, He gave His Son and His Spirit — He gave us Himself, the source of all blessing. Our giving is not repayment, but the fruit of His grace at work within us.
Lord, what You ask is never what I lack, but what You’ve already given me. Forgive me for staring at my own limits, for comparing with others and losing joy, while forgetting the riches You’ve already poured out. Holy Spirit, remind me again and again: everything is from grace, so I may live thankful and trust You alone. Holy Spirit, break the chains of selfishness, fear, greed, and unbelief. Help me lay down all You’ve given — money, time, energy, life — freely and joyfully. Please receive and use it, that I may live out Christ’s love, become a channel of blessing, and show the world that You are not a God who strips away, but a God who gives abundantly!
