Paul spoke straight to those in the church who claimed to have spiritual authority. They liked to boast about outward things — conditions, qualifications, achievements. But Paul pointed out that boasting like this counts for nothing before God. The ones truly accepted are not those who talk themselves up, but those whom the Lord Himself commends. Here Paul set a spiritual value for the Corinthians: “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

Jesus is my greatest example. He came to earth without a well-known family line, and in people’s eyes He was “nothing.” Folks saw Him as just the carpenter’s son, not realising He was the only Son sent by the Father. His identity wasn’t proven by human titles or social standing, but by the Father’s own words: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” This reminds me that the true worth of life isn’t found in applause or recognition, but in whether the Father is pleased. Real glory comes from God, not from people.

I often look for value in human approval, wanting others to praise my skills, my position, or my results. But the Lord shows me that what matters most is not how I see myself, or how others see me, but how God sees me. Sometimes, when I’m around people with status, knowledge, or influence, I feel small and inadequate. Yet God reminds me I don’t need to live in comparison or self-doubt, because in Him I already have the identity of being His child. God’s Kingdom isn’t about wealth or outward honour, but about a heart that reveres Him and keeps growing in faith.

When I choose to boast in the Lord, my vision is lifted. I stop fixating on my own weaknesses or other people’s strengths, and instead look to the God at work within me. The treasure is placed in jars of clay — the treasure is Christ, God’s Spirit choosing us, mere dust, to live in us. No matter how honoured we may seem to people, on earth we are still clay jars — nothing to boast about! What pleases Him is my trust and obedience, not any achievements I can present. That gives me hope: even if the world ignores or misunderstands me, the Father knows my heart; even if in people’s eyes I seem insignificant, God can still use me, for His grace is enough for me.
