Thank You, Lord, for Your endless grace! You’ve called me to be Your child and led me into Your glorious promise — for You are bringing many sons and daughters into glory. But this glory comes with a cost: to deny myself, to obey Christ, and to live out the new life each day. Through Paul’s teaching I’ve come to understand the Father’s heart more deeply. Every day after coming to faith is part of the journey of renewal — learning to face everything in life with truth, righteousness, and holiness, leaving behind the old self and being made new in Christ.
On my faith journey, I often give in to my flesh. When tests come, I don’t always realise they’re from God — instead, I rush to judge right and wrong, taking a bite from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil”, falling into self-centred thinking and pride. Whatever we sow, we reap. My walk with God grows distant, my relationships with others suffer, emotions get tangled, and my heart fills with frustration and struggle. It was only when I was broken in suffering that I began to see: my pain has actually been for my good — to teach me God’s ways. Those painful things were lessons tailor-made by God to strip away my pride and sin and bring me real life.
Through failure and repentance again and again, I’ve come to see that life’s renewal isn’t just about “changing” or “putting off the old self”, but also about “repenting” — letting the Holy Spirit keep renewing my mind. My mind includes my thoughts, attitudes, and inner posture. If my thinking is still ruled by old worldviews and self-centred desires, I can’t truly put on the new self. Paul reminds us: “Don’t be shaped by this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Jesus’ heart is humble, obedient, compassionate, and holy.
He “being in very nature God, didn’t see equality with God as something to cling to, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant.” Thank You, Lord, for showing us through Paul the pathway to a full life in Christ: putting off the old self → being renewed in our minds → putting on the new self.
I want to follow in His footsteps — to lay aside the old self and put on the new — the new person made in God’s image, with true righteousness and holiness. Now I understand that being “renewed in the spirit of your mind” isn’t a one-off change; it’s daily practice — a continual work of the Holy Spirit within me. Putting on the new self means “to gain Christ,” allowing His character to be seen in my life. This is God’s greatest call on me. May I find joy each day in the fear of the Lord, honour Him in everything, and live a life that is no longer I, but Christ living in me.
