(约12:24)Jesus said, “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed; but if it dies, it produces many.” Jesus, the Son of God—the Word through whom the universe was made, the glorious Creator—chose to step down from His heavenly throne and come to earth. He took on human likeness, becoming as humble as a “grain of wheat.” He had no beauty or form to draw attention, no wealth or education, no power or position, and no home of His own. Here on earth, He became the poorest, the most humble of all.

His obedience wasn’t a single decision but a daily act of surrender. From being born in a manger, to growing up in lowly Galilee in a carpenter’s home, He worked hard, went hungry, grew tired, was rejected, persecuted, misunderstood, and shamed. He never used divine power to escape suffering or to change His situation. Nor did He use His heavenly identity to shield Himself. Instead, He entered fully into our human weakness and limitation. He faced every temptation we do, yet was without sin. He humbled Himself, choosing obedience to the very end—not only to circumstances but to every human authority the Father had placed on earth, knowing this was His Father’s will. From His prayer in Gethsemane to the scourging, carrying His cross step by step up to Golgotha, and finally shedding His last drop of blood upon the cross—while His disciples fled and He was left alone, laid in a cold tomb—He remained perfectly obedient in heart. When people stripped Him of His clothes, mocked and insulted Him, when nails pierced His hands and feet, He didn’t fight back but prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.” This is obedience in its fullest form—obedience unto death, even death on a cross.

Lord, thank You that through one man’s disobedience, Adam, all of humanity became disobedient. As You said through Paul, the whole world has been bound under disobedience. We once lived as children of rebellion, under Satan’s power at work in the hearts of the disobedient, unable to free ourselves. 主啊,感谢你让我看见我旧人里的不顺服,在学校不顺服老师,在单位不顺服领导,在家不顺服父母,不喜欢遵纪守法,在路上不顺服交通法规,在教会不顺服牧师,谁是权柄就顶撞谁,不让做什么就偏要做…Lord, thank You for letting me see the disobedience of my old nature—disobedient to teachers at school, to leaders at work, to parents at home; careless with rules, defying traffic laws, resisting pastors in church, pushing back against authority, doing exactly what I’m told not to do.

Lord, only Your perfect obedience—obedience to the point of death, in every circumstance and trial—could break the power of Satan’s rebellion and set us free from the law of sin and death. For as through one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so through the obedience of One, many are made righteous (Romans 5:19). (来5:8-9)Every time I reflect on how You obeyed to the very end, I see that You, the Son of God, through suffering and self-denial in human flesh, completed every test of obedience and became perfect. And being made perfect, You became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey You (Hebrews 5:8–9).

Lord, when You declared on the cross, “It is finished,” what a cry of hope and glory that was! My heart bursts to sing, “In the cross, in the cross, be my glory ever.” No power of sin can stand against the victory of the cross. To truly know Jesus Christ and Him crucified is the most precious treasure in all creation. Then we begin to understand the glory of Your call—to take up our cross daily and follow You. May I—and many others, Your “grains of wheat”—live our lives imitating You, walking in obedience unto death, so that You are glorified.
