The deepest joy and hope Paul held in his heart was this —as an apostle, would the church that the Lord built through him be a reward when Jesus returns? The current separation and suffering, compared with the eternal glory to come, were light and momentary (2 Corinthians 4:17) — and this touched my heart once again.
When Paul met the risen Lord on the road to Damascus, he came to understand that all worldly success would one day pass away.
Only lives built in Christ would last forever. From that point on, he walked a path of counting everything else as loss, treating it all as rubbish so he could gain Christ (Philippians 3:8). What used to be of value to him—titles, roles, positions—meant nothing before Christ, nothing in the light of eternity.
The “crown in which he glories” didn’t mean fame or success before others—but a spiritual legacy that could stand before Christ. Paul saw the lives of believers as his greatest reward before God. This really challenges me to ask: What am I aiming for when I boast? Do I want to be seen, affirmed, praised—or do I long to see lives transformed—captives set free, prisoners released, people raised up as courageous, Spirit-filled believers who glorify God and bless others?
Lord, thank You for putting Paul and so many spiritual fathers and mothers before me as examples. It’s not just about keeping Christ as my goal each day, but about making sure everything aligns with Him. Whether I’m a pastor, a preacher, or leading a small group—I’m called to walk in the truth and lead those I shepherd to do the same—to share in Christ’s death, and to live in the power of His resurrection. Having fought the good fight here on earth, we can be sure that the crown of glory is already prepared for us (2 Timothy 4:7–8).
Lord, may Paul’s faithfulness to You become my own calling—that whether by life or death, Christ would be clearly seen in me. The cross will be my lasting glory. May I be counted faithful in Your eyes, so that You are filled with joy because of me.
And on that day—may I not come before You alone to receive the crown, but bring with me a company of sons and daughters— those who’ve suffered with You, followed You, died and risen with You—Your victorious army, standing before You to receive the reward, so You, our Commander and King, may receive the glory You deserve.
