David’s praise in Psalm 8 brings the human heart back to its rightful place—one of humility as a created being, and reverent awe before the Creator. As he looked up at the heavens, the moon and the stars, his heart was not captured by his own identity or achievements, but was fully taken over by the glory of God. From deep within, he cried out, “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!” This praise did not come from feeling good about himself, but from truly knowing God—knowing that God is the supreme Creator, and that human beings are simply created ones whom He graciously remembers.
David. Through busyness, ministry, and visible results, I can easily forget who I really am, and begin to think that I am accomplishing something. Yet through David, I am reminded again: I was created not to prove myself, but to glorify God and praise Him. My life, my breath, and my service are not about building myself up, but about responding to the glorious Creator. David’s praise helps me see that everything is within God’s plan. It is not about what I can do, but about God graciously working to fulfil His own purposes.
Even when people are given honour and responsibility, these are gifts of grace, not personal achievements. When the church experiences revival and ministry appears successful, my heart can quietly steal God’s glory. In those moments, God has spoken clearly to me more than once: “The revival of God’s kingdom is not because of what you have done; it is entirely God’s own work.” These words shattered my pride and led me into real humility. I came to understand that all revival, all fruit in ministry, and all changed lives are the work of His hand—His remembering and His care.
We are simply vessels, graciously used. Apart from Him, I can do nothing; if He does not work, everything I do has no meaning.
O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth. Please continually bring me back to my place as one who is created, and rescue me from pride and self-glory. Help me remember that all glory belongs to You, and all works come from You. If You do not show grace, I have nothing; if You do not work, what value does anything I do have before You? Anything that is not from You and not for You has no eternal worth. May all that I am, all that I do, and all that I serve be solely for the lifting up of Your name, never stealing Your glory. May Your kingdom come, and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
