David’s life, as described in Psalm 10, was full of injustice and tension. It was a time when the wicked were arrogant, boastful, and oppressed the vulnerable, saying in their hearts, “God has forgotten,” and “God will not call us to account.” The righteous seemed pushed into a corner, and God’s justice appeared delayed. Yet it was exactly in this reality that David was repeatedly brought into seasons of testing and formation: from being hunted by Saul, misunderstood and humiliated, to facing the bold arrogance of the wicked again and again. These were not short-term setbacks, but increasingly deeper tests of his life. David did not seek to defend himself or repay evil with evil. Instead, he chose a path of “passing through fire and water,” placing everything into God’s hands. He trusted that God still reigns as King, that He searches hearts, and that He will judge the wicked with justice, vindicate the oppressed, and repay each person according to their deeds.

David declares, “O LORD, You hear the desire of the humble.” This reveals his deep understanding of God’s all-knowing and all-powerful nature. God’s hearing does not wait until circumstances improve; before a prayer is even spoken, God already knows. David also understood that God’s work is not only seen in outward situations, but begins within the human heart. “You prepare their heart” points to a spiritual reality: a person who truly stands firm is not defined by favourable circumstances, but by a heart that, before hardship comes, is soft, humble, and ready to be shaped, prepared, and strengthened by God.

Lord, I thank You. When I face misunderstanding, unfair treatment, or even false accusation, my first reaction is often the urge to explain myself and prove my worth. Yet in repeated prayer, You did not immediately change my circumstances. Instead, You first worked on my heart, teaching me humility, stillness, and trust. Through these “tests,” I have slowly come to see that You already know my heart and my cries, and that these painful experiences themselves are grace You have prepared for me. Often, when Your kingdom is about to advance, trials come first. The Lord Jesus left me an example: when He was insulted, He did not respond in kind; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to the One who judges justly. A student is not greater than the teacher. The path my Lord walked, I am willing to follow. Time and again, I have experienced that when I trust in Your goodness and choose obedience, You give real peace and hope, enabling me to stand firm in the storm, knowing Your promises never change.

Lord, thank You that You already know the battles in my heart, and You already know my cries. I am willing to remain like clay—soft, humble, and surrendered—knowing that You are the Potter who loves me and shapes me. I desire to follow You and obey You to the end. Please continue to prepare my heart, so that through every trial I may come to know Your love and calling more deeply. Not by what I see or hear, but by trusting You alone and walking in reverent fear of You. Lord, continue to lead me step by step, teach me, and guide me along the path You walked. I place all vindication fully into Your hands. No matter how great the storms ahead may be, may I remain secure in Your presence, and may Your peace and hope fill me until Your will is fulfilled and Your name is glorified.
