【Psa30:5】For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

Davids life held both moments of great victory and painful failures in sin, along with nights of deep anguish. Yet God never cast him aside; instead He led him back through repentance. David learned that God’s anger is His righteous response to sin. His discipline is an act of love and rescue. He does not stay angry forever, but His grace remains with us throughout our lives.

God sometimes allows the night to fallwhether through hardship or through the consequences of our own sinbut in His purpose the night is never the final word. In the original language, “weeping” suggests a traveller passing through. Sorrow and tears are guests staying for a night; they are not the owner of the house, nor the end of life’s story. God intends to turn mourning into joy.

This great truth is seen most clearly in the Lord Jesus. On the darkest night He was crucified for our sins, bearing the Father’s righteous judgment against sin and experiencing the deepest abandonment known to humanity. Yet on the glorious morning He rose from the grave! Hallelujah! His resurrection not only broke the power of death but opened the way of grace for all people—a grace that lasts for a lifetime.

Lord, as I look back over these years, there were many times during Your discipline when I wrongly thought that You had abandoned me. In the darkness I fell into despair, complained, and even turned against You, yet You held onto me with those nail-scarred hands. Those experiences have now become signs of Your grace. Lord, when “weeping for a night” comes, teach me to declare that Your grace is greater than my sin, so that I refuse condemnation and reject the lie that “God does not love me.” Help me to trust in Your goodness, faithfulness, and steadfast love, to seek You with all my heart, to repent humbly and sincerely, and to wait quietly until the dawn breaks through the darkness. You will wipe away my tears and lead me into joyful worship and praise at Your feet.

Lord, thank You for giving the Helper, the Holy Spirit, who never leaves and makes us Your dwelling place. Your grace is not there to excuse our old nature, but to reshape our lives so that we become more like You. Lord, may we experience the grace of Your discipline, correction, and restoration, and truly recognise that this night and this valley of tears, along the path of following You, are only a short season meant to refine us and form us as Your sons. May more people come to know that Your grace and lovingkindness last for a lifetime, and that the blessing You give continues into eternity.
