When David was fleeing in the wilderness, he personally experienced the strength of the rocks and the protection of mountain strongholds. To him, the LORD was the rock that gave firm footing and the fortress where the righteous could run for safety. Surrounded by enemies and living in a situation where one wrong step could cost his life, David knew he needed not only protection but also clear guidance—where to go next, which city to enter, and which cave to hide in.

Today we may not face the same wars David faced, yet in the pursuit of spiritual life the challenges around us can be just as real. The unseen enemies are the tendencies of the old self—pride, doubt, lust, and the urge to defend ourselves—and these can be even more dangerous than enemies we can see.

Spiritual warfare does not usually happen on a battlefield but in the ordinary moments of daily life. 当周围的人在谈论世俗八卦、开庸俗玩笑,或有人用言语藐视、贬低我时,我里面就怒气翻腾,想要开口反击、争对错,不想被压低……When people around me talk about gossip, make crude jokes, or use words that belittle me, anger can rise inside me. I want to respond, defend myself, and prove that I am right. Lord, I had not noticed before that these are exactly the moments when I am most at risk of falling into the enemy’s trap. If I follow the impulse in my heart to interrupt or respond in retaliation, I step outside Your fortress and the enemy gains hold of me.

Lord, thank You. Through David You remind me that I am like a sheep with poor sight who easily wanders, always needing Your guidance. When I feel offended or tempted, I need to pause and ask: Lord Jesus, if it were You, how would You respond, and what do Your words teach? When I choose silence, turn to prayer, and remain in Your word, I stand on the rock of truth and walk securely on higher ground—a fortress the enemy cannot reach.

Lord, You allow these “enemies” I do not like for a good purpose. Through them You train me to guard the identity You have given me. My victory does not depend on the world’s approval or on winning arguments, but on keeping Your peace and revealing the beauty of Christ the Lamb.

Lord, You are my rock and my fortress. In those moments when I feel anxious, angry, or eager to prove myself, for the sake of Your name guide my words and lead my heart.

Help me recognise the enemy’s traps. When my heart begins to churn and I want to fight back, hold me back and lead me into the fortress of Your word. Let me trust fully in Your choice and love so that I no longer need to prove myself to anyone. May I win this inner battle in my work, my studies, and every small interaction. Let people see not my success but the victory of Jesus. Outwardly may there be the humility, gentleness, and patience of the Lamb of God; inwardly the Lion of Judah—the King of kings and Lord of lords—reigning with strength and authority, overcoming the enemy with victorious power.
