This is a testimony from David’s own life. When he was fleeing from Saul and had nowhere else to go, he ended up in the territory of his enemy, Achish king of the Philistines. To stay alive, he pretended to be mad and was eventually able to escape. At one of the lowest, most humiliating, and most fearful points in his life, David admitted his fear before God and shifted his focus from the overwhelming situation to the faithful God. He chose to seek the LORD in faith. God, in His mercy and lovingkindness, listened to him, answered him, and acted—rescuing him not only from danger around him but also from the fears within him. The Lord’s salvation is complete and all-encompassing.
In those uncertain and fearful years, David’s response gives a clear example. Fear is a natural reaction when we are under pressure, but David understood that the real way out was not through his own cleverness, but through seeking the Almighty God. Standing before Achish, he was inwardly afraid—facing the possibility of revenge or death. Yet even as he acted like a madman, his heart was actively seeking the LORD. Although he used that strategy, he knew in his spirit that his escape was not because of his own ability, but because God stepped in and worked in the heart of Achish. From beginning to end, his hope rested in the LORD alone.
Lord, as I look back and remember the times when fear surrounded me and loneliness seemed to consume me, and as I see the marks of Your mighty hand in my life, I also want to declare: “The Lord answered me and delivered me.” Remind me that whenever I experience deliverance—whether physical, financial, or emotional—I should not let that grace pass unnoticed. Teach me to seek and rely on You in every moment, not only in crisis but also in everyday life.
Lord, You are the God who has delivered in the past, and You are the same God who will deliver in the future. In every situation I face, I choose to trust in You. Through Christ’s redemption at Golgotha, by His own body and through His death, He defeated the one who holds the power of death—the devil—and set free those who lived in fear of death all their lives. Lord, I believe that I will be fully delivered from all fear. Lead me in the same path of faith that David walked, so that Your redemption becomes my constant help and strength in overcoming fear.
