Psalm 112 describes the life of a person who fears the Lord and delights in His commands. This does not mean that he will never face difficulties or hear bad news. Rather, when bad news comes, his heart remains steadfast because his faith is not built on circumstances, but on the Lord.
In life, we often face unexpected bad news, danger, loss, and uncertainty. When something happens, it is easy for us to be gripped by fear, constantly wondering what might happen and repeatedly imagining the worst possible outcome. Very often, what causes us to lose our peace is not only the situation itself, but also our fear of the unknown.
Fear also reveals what we are truly relying on. We may say that we trust God, but when bad news comes, we often first believe what we see, hear, and judge for ourselves. We focus more and more on the problem until it seems bigger than everything else, and we forget that God is still in control.
Yet the psalmist turns our eyes away from “bad news” and back to the Lord, from fear to steadfast trust. The battle of faith is not about ignoring bad news, but about refusing to let it rule our hearts. When fear rises, we need to stop replaying the worst possible outcomes in our minds and instead bring our hearts back before God, surrendering our fears and uncertainties to Him, remembering His grace in the past, reflecting on His lovingkindness and faithfulness, and allowing His Word to rule our hearts again.
A person who truly trusts God is not someone who never feels afraid, but someone who chooses God again and again whenever fear arises. Having no fear of bad news is not because we are strong, but because we fear God and trust in Him.
祷告Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please forgive me for so often being afraid of the unknown. When I hear bad news, I first believe what I see and imagine instead of coming before You first. Please lead me to repentance and help me no longer allow fear to rule my heart.
Please strengthen my faith, so that when bad news comes, I may still trust in You and keep my eyes fixed on Your faithfulness and promises. Even if my circumstances do not change, help me choose to trust You and believe that You are still in control. Let me remember that even when the floodwaters rise, You still sit enthroned as King; You hold tomorrow in Your hands, so my heart can be secure and my life can be filled with hope.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
