Psalm 114 celebrates God’s mighty acts in bringing Israel out of Egypt and leading them through the wilderness. When His people had no water, God did the impossible—He brought water out of a rock. The hard flint became a flowing spring. What was impossible for His people was completely possible for God. The same God is with us today. When we cannot see a way forward, we can trust that nothing is too hard for Him.

The New Testament gives this picture an even deeper meaning. Paul says that Israel “drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:4). Christ is our Rock and the source of the life we need. Jesus also promised that whoever believes in Him will have “rivers of living water” flowing from within, referring to the Holy Spirit (John 7:38–39).

Therefore, difficult circumstances are not only places where we experience God’s power and provision; they can also become places of transformation. Through them, God exposes fear, worry, negative imagination, pre-judging, disappointment, and thoughts that are independent of Him. As we bring these thoughts to the Cross and trust Him, the Holy Spirit will renew our minds and trains us to think and act like Christ. The very situations that seem dry and difficult can become places where we know Christ more deeply and His life flows more freely through us.

Prayer

Lord, You are the God who makes the impossible possible. When I face situations that seem hard and hopeless, help me to push back fear, worry, negative imagination, pre-judging, disappointment, and every thought that is independent of You, and nail them to the Cross. Help me to trust that You are able. Through every hard situation, train me to turn away from my old ways of thinking, trust in Your Word, and learn to think and act like Your Son, Christ. Holy Spirit, fill every dry place in my heart with Your living water, change me, and let Your life, Your living water, flow through me to bring refreshment and blessing to others.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
