Psalm 107 presents four different scenes: some people are lost in the wilderness, some are bound in chains in darkness, some are suffering from illness, and some are being tossed about by raging winds and waves. Their experiences are different, yet they all follow the same pattern: people cry out in despair, and God brings deliverance.

The key that turns everything around is found in one sentence repeated again and again: Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress.

Notice the word then. It always comes after people have exhausted every resource they have for rescuing themselves. It is only at that momentin the place of sufferingthat they are finally willing to lay down their pride and do what they would normally never do: cry out to God. Yet the most remarkable thing is not their cry, but Gods responseHe does not look down on their desperate cry, but immediately stoops down to them and delivers them.

We also need to recognise that Gods deliverance is not only about changing our circumstances, but about changing us inwardly as well. If everything in our lives always went smoothly, we might simply carry on living day by day without ever seeking God. If we did not realise the danger of turning away from God, we would not cry out to Him.

Our circumstances are often the doorway God uses to lead us into a real experience of Him. God allows us to come to the end of ourselves so that He can lead us into deeper trust. He values our lives more than our comfort, and He cares more about shaping us to become like Christ than about keeping our lives smooth and trouble-free.

Today, whatever trouble, fear, or despair you may be facing, do not wait until you are completely exhausted and have nowhere else to turn before coming to Himdo one thing now: cry out to Him! He is the God who sees human suffering, hears our cries, and reaches out His hand to deliver us.

Lord, I know that You love me, and Your giving Your life for me is the clearest proof. You are the unchanging and faithful Redeemer, and in every kind of difficulty You delight to show mercy and save all who call upon You. Lord, I confess that I often remember to cry out to You only after I have reached a dead end and exhausted all my own ways. Today, I will hide no longer. I open completely before You the difficulty I am facing right now. 奉主耶稣的名,阿门!Please deliver me with Your mighty handnot only from the hardship of my circumstances, but also from the foolishness and unbelief that always want to rely on myself. May I personally experience this same deliverance in both my daily life and my inner life. In the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen!
