“The stone the builders rejected” becomes a profound turning point in Psalm 118. What people consider useless and reject, God sees as precious and establishes as the foundation. This ultimately points to Christ. Jesus was rejected, humiliated, condemned, and even crucified; what looked like failure and an ending in human eyes became, in God’s hands, the way of salvation. God raised Him from the dead and made this rejected Christ the chief cornerstone.

(17节)The psalmist says: “The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.” (verse 14) He also says: “I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done.” God’s salvation is not only about rescuing us from our circumstances, but also about bringing someone who is heading towards death into life and rebuilding someone who has been crushed and rejected. Christ Himself is the complete expression of this life.

The Lord Jesus did not live according to His own will, but fully obeyed the Father’s will throughout His life. At the most painful moment in the Garden of Gethsemane, He still prayed: “Not My will, but Yours be done.” He was humiliated yet did not retaliate; He was rejected yet still showed love through His wounds, praying on the cross for forgiveness for those who crucified Him. He did not reign only in glory; He also obeyed to the very end on the cross.

The “cornerstone” not only tells us who Christ is, but also tells us who should be the standard for our lives. At this moment, let us quietly ask ourselves: Who is really determining my life? Is it God, or my feelings? Is it God’s truth, or what other people think? Is it Christ’s will, or my own will?

Prayer

Lord, may I not only call You Lord, but also be willing to walk the path You walked. May I not only ask You to change my circumstances, but ask You to change me through them; may I not only ask You to remove difficulties, but ask You to use those difficulties to remove my old self. (加2:20Truly following Christ is not only believing that You died for me, but also learning how to live in Your death and resurrection. Paul said: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” (Galatians 2:20)

May Christ become the true cornerstone of my life, so that my thoughts, choices, relationships, and whole life may be aligned with You. May my life no longer be centred on “me”, no longer be shaped by people’s approval, and no longer be controlled by my own gains and losses, but let Christ become my one true standard. For the stone the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone; may this Christ, who was rejected yet rose from the dead, also truly become the foundation and direction of my life. In the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen!
